Malay Language Internal Competitions 2023

Competitions provide a platform for students to showcase their talents in reading, writing, spelling, and public speaking.

By engaging in friendly competition, students are also motivated to explore and delve deeper into the language, nurturing their interest and passion. Presenting in front of an audience, articulating thoughts effectively, and receiving feedback helps students overcome stage fright and develop self-confidence.

In summary, level or interclass competitions play a vital role in enhancing language skills, fostering a love for language, building confidence, promoting social interactions, and motivating students.

Malay Language Talent Programme (Internal) 2023

In term 2 and term 3, internal competitions were held across the levels. The competitions that were held for the different levels were as follows:

Pupils enjoyed themselves thoroughly as they realised that the learning of Malay Language can indeed be fun. They realised that through singing and acting, learning can still take place.

MTL Fortnight / Dwi Minggu Bahasa

The Mother Tongue Language Fortnight is a platform to expose Malay Language pupils to the beauty and diversity of the Malay culture and traditions. In line with the theme of Malay Handicrafts, pupils from across the levels were introduced to Malay handicrafts such as pottery, calligraphy and weaving.

The activities that were carried out are as follows:

Apart from the above-mentioned activities, P4 pupils were given the opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of Batik painting. They were treated to a hands on session with Mr Kamal Dollah at Goodman Arts Centre.

All in all, pupils found the activities enriching and enjoyable!

Dwi Minggu Bahasa Ibunda merupakan satu wadah bagi mendedahkan murid-murid kepada keindahan dan kepelbagaian budaya dan tradisi masyarakat Melayu. Sejajar dengan tema Seni Kraftrangan, seni tembikar, anyaman tikar dan seni khat. Selain itu, seni lukisan batik juga diperkenalkan bagi memberi mereka kesempatan untuk merasai pembelajaran berasaskan pengalaman.

Aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah dijalankan adalah seperti berikut:

Selain daripada aktiviti-aktiviti di atas, murid-murid darjah 4 diberi kesempatan untuk mempelajari seni lukis Batik. Mereka melalui sesi lukisan bersama Encik Kamal Dollah di Goodman Arts Centre.

P1 – P6 Internal Competitions / Pertandingan Dalaman

In term 1 and term2, internal competitions were held across the levels. The competitions that were held for the different levels were as follows:

Pada penggal 1 dan 2, pertandingan dalaman telah diadakan bagi setiap peringkat. Pertandingan-pertandingan yang telah diadakan adalah seperti berikut:

Murid-murid berasa seronok kerana setiap daripada mereka diberi peluang untuk mengambil -bahagian dalam pertandingan-pertandingan di peringkat masing-masing. Pertandingan-pertandingan ini secara tidak langsung menberikan murid-murid kesedaran bahawa pembelajaran masih boleh berlaku dalam keseronokan.

Ops Baca

On Saturday 14 April 2018, West Grove Primary School participated in OPS BACA, a competition organised by Nanyang CC, which showcases students’ acting and literary skills. Students from Primary 2, 3 and 4 participated after numerous rehearsal sessions. The theme was fables and legends. Props and music were prepared to ensure the performances were complete. The primary 2 students acted out a scene from a famous folklore about an ungrateful son. Our Primary 3 students had to do a book review regarding the book they read, including singing a song at the end. Our primary 4 students had to act out a scene from a chosen folklore but with a different ending.

Our primary 2 students emerged as winners and were requested to perform again in July at the Fiesta Bahasa 2018 at the J canopy.

Pada hari Sabtu, 14 April 2018 Sekolah Rendah West Grove telah mengambil bahagian dalam pertandingan Ops Baca yang dianjurkan oleh Kelab Masyarakat Nanyang. Pertandingan ini mengenengahkan bakat-bakat peserta dalam lakonan dan sastera. Murid-murid peringkat darjah 2, 3 dan 4 mengambil bahagian dalam acara ini setelah berhempas pulas menjalani latihan di sekolah. Tema pertandingan ini ialah kisah-kisah dongeng dan lagenda. Muzik dan prop juga disertakan bagi setiap persembahan. Kumpulan darjah 2 melakonkan babak daripada sebuah kisah yang popular; Bawang Putih Bawang Merah. Kumpulan darjah 3 mempromosikan buku yang telah mereka baca. Manakala, kumpulan darjah 4 melakonkan babak daripada kisah dongeng yang diubah pengakhirannya.

Kumpulan darjah 2 muncul sebagai juara. Secara keseluruhan pula, Sekolah Rendah West Grove memenangi tempat ketiga. Kumpulan darjah 2 telah dijemput untuk membuat persembahan di Fiesta Bahasa 2018 di J Canopy pada bulan Julai.

MTL Fortnight /Dwi Minggu Bahasa

The Mother Tongue Language Fortnight is a platform to expose Malay Language pupils to the beauty and diversity of the Malay culture and traditions. In line with the theme of Performing Arts, silat and kompang performances as well as wayang kulit and Malay dance were some of the activities organised for the pupils this year. In addition, traditional Malay batik painting and traditional games were also introduced to the pupils.

The activities that were carried out are as follows:

Apart from the above-mentioned activities, a storytelling session by the NLB was also held for the P1 and P2. Pupils were engaged by the stories told by NLB’s Associate Librarian, Mr Herman Rothman.

Pupils of West Grove were also given the opportunity to buy ML books during the Book Fair which was held on 12th July 2017.

All in all, pupils found the activities enriching and enjoyable!

Bunga telur cantik sekali,

Pengantin baharu kita raikan,

Budaya dan Bahasa indah sekali,

Daulatkan selalu jangan abaikan.

Dwi-Mingguan Bahasa Ibunda merupakan satu wadah bagi mendedahkan murid-murid kepada keindahan dan kepelbagaian budaya dan tradisi masyarakat Melayu. Sejajar dengan tema Seni Pentas, seni pencak silat dan persembahan kompang, wayang kulit serta tarian Melayu adalah antara aktiviti yang diadakan bagi murid-murid pada tahun ini. Selain itu, seni lukisan batik dan permainan tradisional Melayu juga diperkenalkan bagi memberi mereka kesempatan untuk merasai pembelajaran berasaskan pengalaman.

Aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah dijalankan adalah seperti berikut:

Selain daripada aktiviti-aktiviti ini, sesi bercerita telah diadakan bagi murid-murid darjah 1 dan 2. Murid-murid sangat terhibur dengan cerita-cerita yang dipersembahan oleh pustakawan NLB, Encik Herman Rothman.

Murid-murid West Grove juga berpeluang untuk membeli buku-buku Bahasa Melayu semasa Pesta Buku yang diadakan pada 12 Julai 2017.

Secara keseluruhannya, aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah disertai murid-murid ini diharapkan dapat memperkayakan lagi cinta dan minat terhadap Bahasa Melayu!

Hari Raya Celebration / Hari Raya Aidilfitri

The Hari Raya celebrations were held on 4th July 2017. The half an hour concert was put up by students and teachers from the MT department as well teachers from various departments. For the first time, we saw teachers and students putting up a melodrama which comprises of acting, singing and dancing. The audience were truly entertained by the awesome performance. Their joyous faces say it all!

Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri tahun ini telah diadakan pada 4hb Julai 2017. Konsert selama setengah jam itu telah dijayakan oleh murid-murid, guru-guru jabatan Bahasa Ibunda serta guru-guru daripada jabatan lain. Buat julung-julung kalinya, satu persembahan melodrama yang menyelitkan lakonan, nyanyian dan tarian telah dipersembahan. Jelas di wajah-wajah para penonton bahawa mereka sangat terhibur dengan persembahan yang menakjubkan itu!
